Failbetter Games has launched a week-long event to celebrate independent developers and their communities.
Love Indies Week is being sold as a way for players to give back to indie developers they love, by encouraging them to leave user reviews on the games they love. The Sunless Skies developer released a document detailing how studios, players and influencers can participate.
Failbetter note that this event isn’t about trying to buy positive reviews, and equally encourage less-than-shining critique: “we learn from negative reviews, so we welcome them.” But the studio argues that more reviews lead to a larger conversation, and ultimately more visibility for games that deserve it.
“[We] were looking for a way to entice our community to leave more reviews on our games, in order to improve their visibility on stores and build customer trust by boosting positive review percentages,” said Failbetter. “We knew we had thousands of players who hadn’t left reviews but who might take a moment to do so if they felt they were part of something bigger, and something that would make a real difference for our team.”
“It became obvious that the best way to do this would be a campaign for all indies to get involved with, something fun that brings a bit of positivity to the online games discourse and raises all of us up.”
Indie Love Week is set to take place from July 16th-to-20th.
