Christmas Number One: LadBaby ‘to win would be BEYOND wildest dreams’ | Music | Entertainment |
The YouTuber’s parody cover, We Built This City On Sausage Rolls, could very well be Christmas Number One this year over Ava Max and Ariana Grande. The self-professed “lad to dad” Mark Hoyle, his wife Roxanne and their kids Phoenix and Cobie appeared on BBC Breakfast yesterday morning to talk about their single which is raising money for food bank charity The Trussell Trust. On how the single came about, Mark said: “I don’t really know. It’s all sort of snowballed. Somebody tweeted me about six months ago suggesting I do this.”

He added: “And I downloaded the original song, I played it at home. He [Phoenix] went absolutely wild for it, so I thought, ‘If he’s up for it why aren’t I?”
Speaking about the charity the single is raising money for, Roxanne said: “When we had children we had to go down to a one parent income and it was really hard.
“Even though we didn’t go to the food bank, we got very close to going. And there are apparently a lot of families in the UK who are having to.
“There are 14 million families in the UK who are living below the poverty line…and four million of them are children.”

She added: “So we decided to just donate all our profits to the charity and we just want to do a really good thing. It’s hard when you have to feed a family on a budget really, and there’s a lot of people who can’t.”
Mark said: “We’re just trying to have a bit of a laugh and if we can raise money for such an amazing cause, then why not?
“Our expectation at the beginning was just to make Top 40 and now…”
But when asked how he would feel if they beat the megastars to Christmas Number One, LadBaby replied: “It’s totally beyond my wildest dreams. [If we did it we’d] have a few drinks, get some sausage rolls in.”
