They’ve been teasing it, and now we know it for sure. Hitman 2 has been announced by IO Interactive and publisher Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment. The follow-up to 2016’s Hitman, Hitman 2 features an array of intricately detailed sandboxes within which to practice the art of assassination.

The big change for Hitman 2 is that IO Interactive has decided to veer away from the episodic nature of the original Hitman reboot. Hitman 2 will launch with a full complement of levels that include a motorsport race in Miami, lush rainforests, and sun-drenched European streets. In true Hitman style, each level will be packed with secrets and alternate routes, providing the opportunity to replay the hits in ever more inventive ways.

“We are thrilled to partner with IO Interactive on Hitman 2 and bring the latest game in this iconic franchise to the passionate Hitman fanbase and new players,” said David Haddad, president, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “IO Interactive has done a fantastic job with the Hitman franchise, and this new game will provide a distinct gameplay experience for players to be creative in larger sandbox locations.”

“We are very proud to announce Hitman 2 as the next exciting chapter in our ever-expanding world of assassination. Building on the success of our previous game, Hitman 2 introduces exciting new features, new modes and franchise firsts to make for a larger and richer game,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO, IO Interactive. “We couldn’t have wished for a better partner than Warner Bros. to bring this game to our passionate community and introduce new players to our universe. Welcome back 47!”

On a personal level, I’m a bit sad to see IO drop the episodic approach as it worked really well for the last game. Commercially it didn’t resonate with the Hitman fanbase though, so we’re back to a more traditional setup for Agent 47’s newest outing.

Hitman 2 launches on November 13th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
