Most Demanding

Already the proud owners of the world’s worst pun, THQ Nordic has announced that Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered will be launching on July 3rd for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

For returning players, it’s the same strategic destruction the series has made a name for, this time with fully reworked textures, specular maps, improved shadow rendering, lighting, reworked shaders and post-processing.

On PC there is, of course, native 4K resolution support, provided you’ve got the hardware to run it. It doesn’t sound as if Red Faction Re-Mars-tered is going to be particularly demanding, so quite a few folks should, theoretically at least, be able to run it at 4K.

For console players, it’s a mixed bag. The base Xbox One runs RF:GR at 900p resolution, 60 frames per second. On Xbox One X, users have a choice – run at 1800p at 60fps, or run at true native 4K but drop to 30fps. The standard PS4 is capable of a decent 1080p, locked 60fps, while the PS4 Pro can either run at 1500p 60fps or 4K at 30 frames per second. Boy, console gaming is getting more complicated these days, isn’t it?

Probably the best bit about this remaster is that unlike, say, Dark Souls Remastered, Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered is going to be free to everyone who already owns the game on Steam. Console players, you’re left out in the cold, sorry. It’s great news for me as I’ve got Red Faction: Guerrilla in my Steam library and I can’t remember ever buying it, let alone playing it. God bless Humble Bundles.
