Insurgency: Sandstorm News – Insurgency: Sandstorm Release Date Confirmed Alongside New Mode Details
Can I Run It?
Have your say
New World Interactive has published a bit of a blowout on the upcoming Insurgency: Sandstorm, its upcoming multiplayer and co-operative shooter. The big news is the launch date – Insurgency: Sandstorm will launch on PC through Steam in September 2018. It’s going to be priced at $29.99 and pre-ordering will net players a 10% discount. Returning fans who own the original Insurgency will get a further ‘loyalty’ discount of 10%, bringing the price down to about $24.
As well as the launch date, New World Interactive has confirmed that pre-ordering will earn players access to a beta version before release. It’ll be the full version of Insurgency: Sandstorm, just a bit buggy. The plan is to get feedback from the fans, tackle the bugs and issues, and get Sandstorm ready for release.
In terms of content, NWI’s Mikee said “We’ll be releasing in September with the following game modes: Push, Firefight, and Capture the Base for Versus, as well as Checkpoint for Coop. Operation and Outpost were mentioned in our last blog post; Outpost being a legacy mode of Insurgency and Operation being something more experimental. These won’t be included for release and will be considered for post-release content instead. We’ve found they’ll need some more attention than we originally planned, and we still need to determine if they have a place in our experience. We want to make sure every game mode is tight, unique, and fun, and that we don’t split our player base too much with too many. Checkpoint mode is shaping up really nicely and has some pretty sweet improvements since Insurgency.
Insurgency: Sandstorm will get waves of free content updates post-launch as well. These will include new weapons, upgrades, and maps. There’ll be no Steam Marketplace, no loot crates, and no gameplay-affecting unlocks. Every cosmetic item can be unlocked through working through progression ranks. Are you taking note, Activision/EA?
If you’re a console player – bad news. Insurgency: Sandstorm has been delayed until the first half of 2019 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The aim was to launch alongside the PC version, but more time is needed to polish the experience.
I’ve never actually played the original Insurgency before, but Sandstorm has certainly been catching my eye. It looks a little bit like a modern Delta Force, which is a win in my books.
