In sad news for fans of middling 3D platformers, Activision has delayed the Spyro Reignited Trilogy release two months. Previously scheduled to launch on September 21st, the remastered Spyro Trilogy is now due to arrive on November 13th.

“Everyone here at Toys for Bob is so proud to be reigniting the original Spyro trilogy after all these years,” said Paul Yan, co-studio head at Toys for Bob. “We’re deeply committed to getting these games right, so we’ve decided to move the release date of Spyro Reignited Trilogy to November 13, 2018. I really hoped that you would be rescuing dragons and scorching Rhynocs sooner, but the Trilogy needs more love and care.  In November when you’re exploring the Dragon Realms, Avalar and the Forgotten Worlds, we know you’ll agree the extra time was worth the wait.”

A little love and care is the order of the day here then, although it doesn’t exactly help Spyro’s prospects. It’s shifted from a hectic early September release to nestling right alongside Fallout 76, Hitman 2, and Pokemon Let’s Go. Only the latter is really a serious competitor, in truth, but it is in danger of being drowned out. Still, the Crash Bandicoot remakes have continued to sell like gangbusters so Spyro Reignited Trilogy could be well-positioned to capitalise on the Christmas madness.

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy includes remakes of the first three games in the Spyro 3D platforming series, comprising Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

At the moment, only PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Spyro are confirmed, although Nintendo Switch and PC versions are expected at a later date.
