GeForce GTX 2080 News – How Much is the GeForce GTX 1180 Going to Cost

With the arrival of the next-generation GeForce graphics cards seemingly imminent, much of the chatter has now turned to the all-important pricing of the GeForce GTX 1180 and GeForce GTX 1170. PC gamers want to know how much is the GeForce GTX 1180 going to cost.

Nvidia fans have been left starved of a new GPU generation since Spring 2016 and the thirst is now very much real. Nvidia is probably all too aware of the hunger out there though, and with little competition at the high-end of the market, there’s precious little to stop Team Green from charging whatever the heck it wants. At launch, when supplies are slim, those most ardent fans will usually pay whatever it takes anyway.

Instead, Nvidia’s only limitation is whether the consumer base at large think it’s taking the piss with its pricing. Every new graphics card generation there are usually a few murmurs of discontent, although pricing has stayed largely steady over the past 10 years or so. There have been one or two extreme examples though, as shown in the chart below. The chart is inflation adjusted at 2017 levels.

The anomaly here, of course, is the GeForce 8800 GTX, one of the most popular and yet one of the most expensive graphics cards of all time. None of Nvidia’s gaming-focused GPUs have come close to that before or since, and for a GeForce GTX x80 model we can typically expect to pay anywhere from $550 to $700. There are rumours that the GeForce GTX 1180 could be in excess of that, possibly somewhere in the region of $750, perhaps even higher. How much can Nvidia get away with charging? That’s down to how ravenous the customer base is.

With an announcement expected within the next few weeks or months, where do you think the pricing for the next flagship graphics card from Nvidia is going to sit? Will the GeForce GTX 1180 launch at an even higher price than the GTX 1080 Ti, or will Nvidia play it a little safer?
