While rubbernecking at the worst performing games is where a lot of people’s interest lies, we should also take a moment to celebrate that came to PC and ran fantastically. They’re designed to run on a wide range of hardware, offer plentiful PC-exclusive options, and can smash those high frame rates. It helps if they look fantastic as well.
Finding out whether game is well-optimized is easy – head to its game page here on GD and you’ll see its GD Optimization Score, as voted for by you. We’ve also got a dedicated page for all the scores in the link above, and if you ever head to a game page on your travels do remember to vote as it helps immensely with more accurate scores.
All of you have been letting us know throughout the last 12 months whether you think the biggest AAA games are well optimized, or pulling no punches and letting us know if they run like garbage. So here are the 10 most well-optimized PC games of 2018.
|1||Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age||9.5|
|2||Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy||9.4|
|3||Forza Horizon 4||9.3|
|4||A Way Out||9.1|
|7||Dark Souls Remastered||8.6|
|9||Far Cry 5||8.5|
|10||Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom||8.3|
And what we have is quite a curious list. A large chunk look spot-on but then we somehow have Final Fantasy XIX and the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy sitting at the top. The former is a remaster of a 12-year-old game so we’d definitely expect it to run well, while the latter is, by all accounts, a very decent remake.
Slotting in below these we have a handful of games that are more traditionally regarded as well-optimised. Forza Horizon 4 looks and runs like a dream, Hitman 2 is a lovely refinement, and F1 2018 runs as fantastically as that series always does.
Another AAA title that definitely deserves its spot is Far Cry 5. Say what you want about the game itself but there’s no denying Far Cry 5 looks and runs fantastically. FC5 has a massive draw distance and a richly detailed world but it consistently maintains steady FPS, at least in our benchmark tests.
The one that definitely sticks out to me is Darksiders 3. In terms of performance, it’s extremely average, yet the visual fidelity is pretty poor. Considering how Darksiders 3 looks, we would’ve expected it to run at higher frame rates.
What do you think of this list? Are these some of the best-optimized games of 2018, or do you think others were worthy of a spot?
