And breathe… The last few months have been pretty hectic for new game releases, meaning plenty of folks have a mountain of stuff to get through. Bargain hunters have been treated by the arrival of the Steam Autumn Sale this weekend as well, so there are plenty of reasons to draw the curtains and busy yourselves with a gaming session this fine weekend.

Jon – I’ve got a review backlog that’s quickly growing precipitous. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is definitely top of the pile, and I like what I’ve seen so far, but I also need to sink my teeth into Fallout 76, Hitman 2, Darksiders 3 and Battlefield V. Basically, too many games, too little time. This weekend I’m planning to hit up Thronebreaker and Darksiders 3, the latter of which is out next week so I’m keen to form some impressions by then. It’s the first game in the series to be developed by Gunfire Games and it’s one of those games that could fall just about anywhere on the spectrum.

To break things up a little between my card-battling and dungeon-slashing sessions, it’s definitely about time I give Battlefield V some more time and see how it shapes up. Early impressions are that it’s a similar formula to Battlefield 1 but showcasing heaps of improvement. The content’s a little light and there’s an unfinished air to proceedings, as if DICE has just frantically finished putting in the finishing touches and you can still smell the wet paint and spot a few missed patches.

Felix – I am still pushing on with Red Dead Redemption 2. 60% through and although the initial wow factor has faded it is still an engrossing story 35 hours in. Once completed we will take another look at it from a game development analysis viewpoint.

I will also be playing Total War: Warhammer 2 – Curse of the Vampire Coast DLC to see what that adds. It looks like the new factions will work in line with the Vortex campaign and Mortal Empires. You’re an undead pirate captain that can command large navies that will raid the coastlines. One of the units available is a towering construct that is part ship, with a large hand cannon that launches siege cannonballs. Awesome.

Other than that, I would also like to continue on with Pathfinder Kingmaker. It’s a great RPG based around the spin-off D&D rules of Pathfinder. Where they have cleverly chosen one of the most popular adventure paths to have come out of Paizo publishing house, that let you rule a realm as well as run around the realm and its neighboring territories making a difference.
