CD Projekt RED has teased a few details concerning the size of Cyberpunk 2077’s open world, revealing Night City will feature six incredibly dense city districts, each of which can stretch as far upwards as they do across, showcasing a level of verticality that just wasn’t present in The Witcher 3.
“You can have 120 square meters of space technically taking up 60m2 of space,” said a CDPR representative. “In a tall building, and we will have many of them explorable, each flood can house a lot of activities. Floors stack. The Witcher 3 was, in a way, much flatter – the activities were scattered. Here, the world can be huge, but it can be huge upwards, or downwards”.
The Witcher 3’s world was already impressively large, stretching across the Northern Realms, Novigrad, and the Skellige Isles, so if Cyberpunk 2077 is anything like this but condensed into a giant, explorable city then we should be in for a treat. This is the first we’ve heard about massive underground networks though, with Night City stretching below the surface as well as above.
As for precisely how large Night City is, that’s still a matter of some debate.
“Night City holds 6 districts, but I can’t give you an exact number on square meters, because no one counted this yet,” they go on to say. “Also, this is tricky for an urban environment – Night City has lots of buildings and these buildings have floors”.
