Brace yourselves, the Uncharted movie is actually coming. After years of backroom discussions, rumours, script drafts, and casting meetings, Sony Pictures has announced Uncharted the movie will be coming to cinemas on December 18, 2020.

Tom Holland, of Spider-Man fame, will be starring as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie. Directorial duties have been handed over to Dan Trachtenberg, who counts 10 Cloverfield Lane and an episode of Black Mirror among his writing credits.

The screenplay for the Uncharted movie is being written by Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker, although we’re still none the wiser as to whether Uncharted will follow the plot of one of the games or weave its own tale.

The pieces are in place for this not to be an absolute disaster then, and Detective Pikachu has proved video game movie adaptations don’t need to be universally terrible. Sony Pictures clearly feels confident enough in the project to slap a date on it, so now the waiting game must begin.

In the meantime, Nathan Fillion and director Allan Ungar did put together a live-action fan film for Uncharted that does give us a little taster of where the movie is headed.
