EA’s having an unusually quiet, Anthem-free E3 this year, although the highlight of its presence is certainly our first look at gameplay from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. A grand total of 14 minutes of gameplay have been showcased, presenting a fairly narrow slice of what we can expect from this third-person action-adventure.

Anyone who guessed Star Wars Jedi would be Uncharted in space based on the cinematic reveal looks to have been bang on the money. Fallen Order has a greater focus on melee combat, courtesy of the iconic lightsaber, but the cinematic flair and platforming hijinks certainly call to mind Naughty Dog’s acclaimed series.

The demo itself has been plucked from a segment about three hours into SWJ (don’t even try it, auto-correct) Fallen Order, taking place on the Wookie planet of Kashyyyk. Cal is doing the right thing and rescuing the Wookies imprisoned by the space Nazis. He’s equipped with a fairly wide range of abilities already, including Respawn’s famed wall-running, force grip, push, and he’s a fairly dab hand with a lightsaber. It looks ludicrously easy, although that’s how these E3 demos tend to be portrayed.

It’s difficult to tell from the gameplay, but Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be much more different structurally than Uncharted. The player’s ship forms a hub from which multiple planets can be visited, and Respawn said they’ve been taking notes from Metroid Prime in terms of world layouts. Expect plenty of Metroidvania-type secrets and the ability to go back and unlock new areas once additional force skills have been learned.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 15th, 2019.
