George R.R. Martin rumored to be game consultant for Dark Souls developer
Game of Thrones is over, at least as a TV phenomenon. Author George R.R. Martin is still working on two books to finish the series that spawned the show. He’s also consulting on a game.
Martin posted an entry on his blog Monday to sift through his feelings about the end of Game of Thrones. He also mentioned his many other projects including TV shows, shorts films and a game.
“I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan,” Martin said.
There was no mention of what company he’s working with, but rumors have been circulating for months that Martin will work with Japan-based From Software, developer of Dark Souls and the recently released Sekiro.
The first mention of a collaboration between the author and a developer came in March when the Spawn Wave YouTube channel released a video about the rumor. On Tuesday, Gematsu reported about a partnership that has been in the works for the past three years with Japan-based Bandai Namco, the publisher of Dark Souls.
There are no specifics on whether the game will be a brand new one from the developer or a sequel to one of its previous games, but the rumor is that it’s an open-world game and not based on Game of Thrones.
If the rumor is true, Gematsu reported, then a game announcement could take place during Microsoft’s E3 press conference on June 9. It’s unclear what Microsoft’s relationship to the game may be.
