We’re all set for a weekend sneaking around in the woods playing soldiers because the Ghost Recon Breakpoint closed beta is now live and kicking.
We’ve already performed some brief performance benchmarks of the Ghost Recon Breakpoint closed beta, as well as provided some first impressions, but now it’s time to take a look at just how good, and bad, Ghost Recon Breakpoint can look with our Low vs Ultra graphics comparison sliders.
By now you know the drill. This is a batch of still images plucked straight from gameplay in GR: Breakpoint. We used a GeForce RTX 2060, comparing the visual quality between Low and Ultra graphics presets. All you need to do is slide your cursor across and you can compare the visuals!
Ghost Recon Breakpoint Low v Ultra Graphics Comparison
In Ghost Recon Breakpoint you’ll be spending an inordinate amount of time looking at foliage and vegetation. That’s what Ghost Recon is supposed to be all about – staring at bushes rather than shooting down giant attack drones. As you can see, there’s a phenomenal difference between Low and Ultra. Low essentially strips all the foliage right out, leaving us with bare trees and some hastily textured earth.

Now, this next pair of screenshots were intended to show the difference in the vehicle models, but not a whole lot actually changes. Shadow quality certainly helps a lot though, particularly if you look at that front wheel arch and the grills on top. Ultra also benefits from some nice reflections on the bonnet.
Considering Ghost Recon Breakpoint is set on an island, you’d think the water would’ve been the top priority for Ubisoft. It clearly wasn’t. The actual water stays much the same between Low and Ultra, and sadly there’s none of the lovely water physics we see in Assassin’s Creed these days. Still, the moss on that rock looks lovely and fluffy, doesn’t it?
The Ghost Recon series has been famed for its vast draw distances as of late. Now, I’m not entirely sure, but I do feel as if the draw distance in Breakpoint has been scaled back a little from Wildlands. Case in point, looking down a sniper scope. There’s some sort of volumetric fog trying to obfuscate the details but bottom line is this – look down a sniper scope at a long distance target and Ghost Recon Breakpoint doesn’t look too hot anymore.
And finally, onto this last pair which made me grin. One of the big features shown off during GR: Breakpoint’s reveal was the ability to get down low, hit the camo button, and hide yourself in the undergrowth from nearby enemies. If you’re playing on Low, good luck even knowing where that undergrowth is. Even Mr Magoo would spot you lying down there.
